The Splatter Project

The initial stage in the making of these paintings is a lot of fun!
I start by throwing, dripping. and splatting paint onto the canvas, by any means imaginable, and then I work it to the point of near completetion in the sense that the piece is well balanced in compostition, tone and colour.

Then I leave the canvas to dry. Usually somewhere visible so I can start to think about the shapes I can see in the chaotic patterns and textures I've created during the initial stage. Sometimes the paintings are good enough to leave as they are, but most often this is where the time consuming part begins.

Picking out and defining shapes and forms without disturbing the natural and spontaneous element of the painting, which can be really tricky, but when it works the combination of techniques looks awesome.
